Maligne Canyon
Located in Jasper National Park, Maligne Canyon is the deepest and most spectacular gorge in the Canadian Rockies. Carved over millennia by churning water and grinding frost, this dramatic limestone canyon plunges to depths of over 50 meters (160 feet). Visitors can explore the edge of this sheer gorge via a scenic interpretive trail that crosses six distinct footbridges. Each bridge offers a unique vantage point of the thunderous waterfalls, lush mossy walls, and the astonishing underground river system that suddenly bursts from the rock face. As a premier example of karst topography, the canyon is fed by the mysterious disappearing waters of nearby Medicine Lake. This geological masterpiece offers an immersive, sensory-rich hike, allowing travelers to experience the raw, sculpting power of nature up close in the heart of the alpine wilderness.
