Columbia Icefield

The Columbia Ice Field is an ice field in the Canadian Rockies, straddling the North American Continental Divide. Part of the ice field is located at the northwest corner of Banff National Park and the southern end of Jasper National Park. The area is about 325 square kilometers, the thickness is 100 to 365 meters, and the annual snowfall is about 7 meters. The Athabasca Glacier can be seen from the Icefield Highway. Since 1844, the Athabasca Glacier has obviously melted. In summer, tourists can take a bus to sightsee on the glacier. The Athabasca, Northern Saskatchewan, and Columbia Rivers all originate from the Columbia Ice Field. This is the highest hydrological point in North America. Water flows northward into the Arctic Ocean, eastward into the Atlantic Ocean, and southward to the west into the Pacific Ocean.
