Emerald Lake

As the largest body of water in Yoho National Park, Emerald Lake lives up to its name as a breathtaking gem hidden within the mountains. While the lake is relatively shallow, its bed is lined with glacial rock flour—finely ground limestone silt accumulated over millions of years of glacial movement. Under the brilliant mountain sun, these particles suspended in the water reflect light in a spectrum of mesmerizing hues, ranging from soft mint to deep, saturated green. Framed by ancient forests and soaring snow-capped peaks, the lake creates a perfect mirror image of the wild landscape. It is this magical play of light and water that has earned it the title "The Emerald of the Rockies," offering a serene and postcard-perfect sanctuary for all who visit.
