NWT Diamond and Jewellery Centre
Yellowknife is famous for the lights in the sky, but it is also renowned for the treasures beneath the ice. As the "Diamond Capital of North America," the Northwest Territories became a global player in the gem industry following the historic 1991 discovery by geologist Charles Fipke.
The NWT Diamond Centre offers visitors an immersive journey into this sparkling world. Located in downtown Yellowknife, the centre serves as an educational hub, detailing the fascinating history of the region's three major mines: Ekati, Diavik, and Gahcho Kué. Visitors can watch live diamond cutting and polishing demonstrations, witnessing the transformation of rough stones into brilliant gems. Most importantly, Canadian diamonds are celebrated for being 100% conflict-free and ethically mined. Each stone comes with a guarantee of origin, making it a timeless souvenir that captures the purity and brilliance of the Arctic.
