Day 1 Vancouver — Rocky Mountaineer — Kamloops

    Overview

From Vancouver to Kamloops on a Scenic Rail Journey

Today, your Mandarin-speaking Tour Leader will meet you at the Vancouver Rocky Mountaineer Station (Address: 1755 Cottrell Street, Vancouver, BC). You will then board the luxurious Rocky Mountaineer train together. The train will depart promptly at 8:00 AM for the Rocky Mountain National Parks, taking you away from the bustle of the city and traveling towards Kamloops. The Rocky Mountaineer has been recognized as one of National Geographic's "World's 10 Best Train Trips," offering a truly luxury experience with personalized, refined service and exquisite, gourmet meals onboard. Service levels vary depending on the chosen coach class (GoldLeaf or SilverLeaf). The journey will take you through the lush fields of the Fraser Valley, wind through forest-lined river canyons, and pass the coastal mountains and Cascade Mountain range. You will transition dramatically into the desert-like environment of the interior. Throughout the ride, professional onboard attendants will provide insightful narration and expert commentary, enhancing your understanding and appreciation of the spectacular and ever-changing scenery.

    Journey Highlights
    • Fraser Valley: The lush, fertile plain east of Vancouver, known as the "breadbasket" of BC. It features rich farmland, berry fields, and wineries, framed by the Coast Mountains (morning journey)
    • Fraser Canyon: Steep rock walls and rushing waters carving through ancient formations (mid-morning)
    • Hell's Gate: A dramatic, narrow gorge in the Fraser Canyon where the massive Fraser River is forced through a 35-meter-wide passage, creating powerful rapids. Explorer Simon Fraser called it "the gates of Hell." (late morning)
    • Thompson River Canyon:Located in BC's dry interior, this canyon features arid, desert-like hills and scrubland. The train follows the river, showcasing a dramatic transition from coastal forest to semi-desert (afternoon)
    • Kamloops Lake: Serene views as the train travels along the shoreline approaching your evening destination (late afternoon)
